IT Manager, IT Project Manager, and now Business Manager
9.52PM
3 Management class for 3 consecutive semesters, although the role of the management topic I learn differs from the first sem until my masters, all 3 computes (very IT'ed now...) the same content. Now that's what you call "BORING"...
First year in Aus, first semester. IT manager from the subject IT Management. The roles IT Manager plays in the organisation that interacts with CIOs, CEOs, and IT subs under them. How flexible should they be when succumbing to changes that's on-going in the IT industry and how to interact with managers from the other departments. What I've learn in that subject is that IT Managers and Business Managers don't mix that well, due to the fact each party have different preferences in their culture and work content. Business Managers, for instance managers in the Marketing and Financial department can never comprehend the decision makings and the fundamentals of the IT department, and tend to be very linear in their approach, focusing only on profits and benefits for the board of directors (isn't that we're all interested in?) and vice versa (is that so?).
Then its IT Project Managers from IT Project Management during my second semester. Stuff dealing with IT Managers and their role in IT Projects (wtf crap?) . The content is almost similar to IT Management, except that it deals more in inter-personal skills of the IT Manager, on how to handle situations within the project and team management. Then we learn on the difference between projects and how to rate a successful project, such as delivering on time, within budget and something else. That is only project management success. We also have project success, a determinant that rates the success of the project as a whole, accomplishing its task. Then we have the success of the project for the organisation, on whether the organisation benefits from the project. Now that is a whole lot of crap.
Now this sem, for my masters, is moving into another direction. Intro to Management now brings me the role of a Business Manager. (Oh and I woke up late for that subject. Class was at 6pm, I got in by 7. Was sleeping the whole afternoon since my finance class because I was awake the entire night. Damn.) So far lectures brought to me a similar content to the above, such as the factors that managers face within the organisation, how decision making is being conducted from the top management level to lowest line managers of the organisation, and draws the attention of the business society. OMG! 2nd and 3rd assessment was discussed (disgust), and it covers the processes in the organisation, and in groups of 3, write a report of 2.5k words that studies the organisation of the real world. 1st assessment is based on the case study of Porsche (fancy!).
That's what you call flexibility. :P. But I'm really kinda sick of management subjects already. Not that I hate them or what, its just studying the same content over and over is...not right. Anyway Finance however, is a different story. I really enjoyed my Finance class this morning. All on calculation and formulas that computes the firm's present values and future values. Some parts in which is quite confusing, the rest are all, sweet! Its been a while since I've got exposed to some calculation and formulas (since add maths in high school that is) so it does take time to adjust into that environment. I'm really going to enjoy this subject with much to practice. (I certainly hope so)
Kay now to update on some blogs. Hanz changed his blog, so has SzeYin. Drie got his blog violated. Hmm.. thats bout it. Thats bout enough for today, gonna have a few rounds of WoW before I hit the sack. and SHIT! I missed this week's episode of Without A Trace. Damnit. Oh anybody got any nice Bit-torrent sites to recommend? Suprnova.org has been closed and some of my known sites have been deleted as well. Anybody?
